i get this uncanny feeling that i've posted something similar to this before..hmm
anyway, so my effective communication tutor/teacher (last semster) said something like this..
"imagine a scenerio. your boss calls you into his/her office. what's the first anticipation that would come to your mind?"
the class kinda agreed that it is most likely to do with a problem and that the guy going in is in for a scolding.
my tutor was saying that its kinda common in singaporean societies or maybe just our generation. where most of the time, our parents/elders approaches us only to ask how is our results, or whether you're studying enough for the test/exam or scolds us for not doing well enough (by comparing to people with better grades) and whisking us off for tuition (which is good. gives undergrads a temp job =/) or other supplementary classes
it gets internalized that people up there (which is supposed to be the direction that u're climbing towards) will call for u only to scold you for mistakes that u've done.
anyway, my point is...take a step out from your current mentatlities and ponder about 3 of your closest friends/family members/loved ones. now try to come up with 10 things about them, preferably 5 good, 5 bad. if you find urself not having troubles with the good points (and make sure they're really good points, not just for-the-sake type), give yourself a pat on the back :)
and now, list 5 things you're proud of...see if its harder or easier
outz`mind's a blank
